All Langford Canoes have a lifetime warranty against manufacturer's defects

For more than 65 years Langford has experimented, pioneered and brought to the market place canoes that are considered to be made with the most modern design and construction techniques.

Hundreds of canoes have been constructed and tested over the past 20 years. During this process most proto-types remained on the water for up to three years through all the seasons and weather conditions the canoe will experience in its lifetime before being available to the retail customer. This necessary step is in place to ensure all potential manufacturing flaws are revealed before the canoes are ever sold to customers. This is expensive but necessary to ensure our canoes will provide quality, long-term safety and proven performance that Langford is famous for in the paddling world.

Langford uses a wide range of time proven manufacturing techniques including; Hand Laying, Resin Extraction Systems, Vacuum Infusion and Vacuum Forming/Bagging. Don't be fooled by technical descriptions or perceived revolutionary break troughs. Innovation takes time and experience. You can feel confident in the purchase of a Langford Canoe knowing it was constructed with a time tested method and is backed by the oldest canoe company in Canada. We will be here if you ever need us.

NOTE: All of the following Lay-Up styles use the "Vacuum Formed (Infusion, Resin-Extraction)" construction system

1. L-Glass

Traditional hand-laid heavy duty fiberglass construction. When weight is not a factor but paddling performance and years of durability is. Perfect for the cottage or resort. Why pay for the weight savings of Kevlar if weight is not an issue, and you don't plan on carrying the canoe around often.

2. Expedition Kevlar

A combination of S Glass and Kevlar composite, with closed-cell foam ribs positioned in high stress areas. A combine heat with a resin extraction system is used to create a light weight, durable tripping or cottage canoe. Expedition Kevlar canoes are available with clear or coloured exterior.  This simple Rental Grade hull is supplied structure via the HD Core Cell Anti-Flex Rib System. Our hull construction better mitigates the flexibility that accompanies "Rental Grade" Kevlar canoes sold at this price point.  Our "Rental Quality" or price-point Ex-Kev is not as durable as our Kevlar and Ultra-lite models however our Ex-Kev will provide what other manufacturers have removed from this segment of the market.  A Langford Ex-Kev will offer a measurably greater free-board, a shallower draft, higher functional capacity, a larger usable volume, and the greatest efficiency, and water-shedding ability one can expect from a canoe at this construction/price level. The Langford Ex-Kev will suffer less hull torque and flex due to the use of more core cell than other Rental Grade or budget kevlar canoe.

3. Kevlar / Carbon Composite

Constructed of Kevlar and Carbon composites these light weight extremely durable canoes are perfect for the person who needs a lighter canoe than the Expedition Kevlar. This construction process uses a combination of Kevlar and Carbon Fibre along with vacuum infusion and forming techniques to insure a strong light canoe hull is produced every time. Heat is then used to cure the composite fabric and resin at high temperatures to insure one fused unit is the end result. These canoes will not delaminate or oil can (Hull Flex).

4. Ultra Lite Kevlar

For the canoeist who must have the lightest canoe in production today. The Ultra Lite Kevlar is constructed of solid Kevlar and a solid foam core and ribs with a UV protected exterior and interior. These Ultra Lites have a distinct clear coat you can see the fabric and foam core. If you need the lightest, structurally sound canoe available on the market, this is it. This canoe will not delaminate or oil can and will provide years of trouble free light weight canoeing. You don't have an excuse not to canoe now!

5. Carbon Fibre

For the customer looking for the distinct look. It is constructed of the very popular black carbon fibre. Not the lightest canoe available and definitely not for the budget minded, it's a real head turner. If you're after a unique look in the mid range weight category then carbon fibre could be for you. The carbon canoes are constructed in the way as the Ultra Lites and finished with a clear exterior and painted interior to protect you from the intense heat generated by the black material.

"What is Vacuum Formed (Infusion, Resin-Extraction), anyway?"

When every pound counts, especially on those long, rugged portages, you will appreciate a Vacuum Infusion canoe. This method of construction provides the lightest yet strongest hulls possible. It eliminates human error entirely from the lay‑up process. No longer will there be a danger of air bubbles, thick or thin spots, as found in all hand‑laid hulls. During the Vacuum Infusion process, the fabric, the closed cell high‑ density foam core hull & ribs are positioned, and resins are smoothed into the hull.

The interior is then covered with a reusable heat resistant polymer membrane, and a pump removes the air from the mould. The resulting pressure forces the polymer membrane to squeeze into the mould, over the laminate and resins, forcing the air bubbles up and out of the hull entirely. This also ensures a totally even distribution of resin throughout the length of the canoe, immersing every fibre of the fabric in the hull, be it Kevlar or Carbon Fibre. In addition, following this step, the molds are heated to cure the resins at higher temperatures, improving the properties of the resins, and creating the lightest, strongest, most rigid hull possible in what is now one fused unit!

Langford has been building canoes using these modern techniques as well as others for over 20 years. We have maintained a level of innovation and consistent quality, and time tested dependability that is unmatched in the industry. For over 65 years Canada's oldest canoe company has delivered the best built, best performing, longest lasting canoes in the business, backed by the best warranty should there ever be a problem.

If you are going to do it, do it right. Buy once, buy right!
